A confused Bologna vs Pescara
29 January,1989, at the Adriatico stadium of Pescara it was played the game of salvation. The home guest Pescara fought against Bologna in a very important match which should affect the final result of the championship. Before this match the two teams were in the second bottom of the table in the relegation zone just back the lower Wine-red Torino. The two coaches Galeone and Maifredi fielded their zone formations.
Short summary of the match
During the match the teams tried to understand the way to play and to score. Finally, the first real strong action happened. Junior passed to Ferretti who after passed to Berlinghieri: the winger went into the box but Sorrentino moved towards him and saved with the left foot his shot at 10′. Bologna reattacked after 4′ with the captain Pecci with a strong volley from the edge of the box but Gatta jumped in a really fantastic and great shot at the seventh of the left box and saved to the corner. While Pecci wasn’t able to go on the Red-blue actions, the Pescara Junior was ready for the White-blue actions. He kicked the most dangerous action in the first half time: corner from the left and Zanone jumped higher than the others and saved the ball. It seemed like a goal but in the goal line Pecci saved Sorrentino from it. At 20′ Junior was still the leader! In fact, he kicked a very fab shot to Pagano and the winger passed very fast the defensive De Marchi who was obliged to knock Pagano down in penalty box. Penalty box which gave no result and just injured the Reb-blue Sorrentino keeper who was really replaced by Cusin. The last thrill happened in the first time at 38′ in which Marchegiani crossed without any expectations and was returned from the crossbar into the ground. Berlinghieri was the first to take the ball by hand and kicked it into the goalpost.
In the second half time, at 60′, Pescara suddenly leaded! The Brasilian Tita just went into the ground to replace an unfitness Zanone and he was alone in the ground in suspicious offside and kicked a strong left shot and scored the net. The Red-blue complained too much but the referee confirmed the goal. So, Bologna was obliged to attack due to equalize but 8′ passed before the Pescara Gatta keeper was really attacked. In fact, Pino Lorenzo attacked him by a header and the goalkeeper saved it with a really and great shot. After 3′ Pescara scored a second goal: Gasperini played fom the left position and crossed to Berlinghieri who wasn’t able to manage it very well. Luppi stole the ball but its return kicked the White-blue shoulder and scored a goal on the left dumbfounded Cusin.
Just the time to place in the middle and Bologna reduced the distance. All the Pescara defenders were all confused and astonished about the left cross by Alessio and the Bologna defending Demol, freed in the centre of the box, scored very quickly with the left foot the blameless Gatta. The mistakes party didn’t end and Demol freed with clumsy pass from his own edge of the box at 78′.The cute Brazilian Junior took the ball and took two or three steps and after he scored a really left shot. The Red-blue keeper Cusin was just able to touch the ball and slowed it down. Yet, the Pescara winger rushed the ball and scored it into the unattended net: Pescara vs Bologna 3-1.
Just a bad defeat for the away Bologna that wasn’t able to take more than 1 point against the opponents of the same value like Pescara. After this match, Maifredi’s guys were at the bottom of the table. Just to report it, Bologna came in the teenth place together with the other teams at the end of the championship while Pescara came in the last fourth place and relegated to Division One “Cadetteria”.
