Radio Casteldebole weekly: Serie A’s fate remains uncertain

We are hardly getting used to this lockdown, these weeks without any kind of sport look slower than ever, every day looks the same, entire countries have been quarantined, no one knows when all this is going to end and which consequences will bring along. Serie A’s societies are constantly monitoring the situation, getting ready to deal with multiple scenarios. One thing is certain: Serie A’s clubs, but in general every economic field, will lose billions because of this emergency, overturning their financial and strategic programs. 

Obviously, football and sports in general are not the main concern for the moment, even though this economic field collects a lot of money which is going to be reinvested, helping the growing of the economy. Is well aware of this the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe who was reluctant to postpone the Olympic games (which have been scheduled for 2021, as well as the Euro2020) knowing how this would have negatively affected the Japanese gross domestic product. But Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, jointly with Shinzo Abe and Yuriko Koike, Tokyo’s Governor, considering that it would have been impossible to look the other way, have decided to delay the Olympic games to the next summer. 

Concerning Italian Serie A it’s hard to say if and when it will be possible to play again. Gabriele Gravina, FIGC’s president, was already doubtful about the possibility to resume the championship. The same issue has been raised by Vincenzo Spadafora, Italian Sports Minister: «Nowadays, not even the scientists know when this emergency will last. The sport can only adapt and follow the rules that the government has approved. I have to admit it, I dont think that football and the other sports will have the chance to play again the 3rd of May like we were hoping, the situation it’s still too dramatic. Even if there was this possibility, the rest of the games would be played behind closed doors.»

Bologna’s football players are still quarantined in their respective homes, keeping in shape and waiting for news. The club has also decided, with the help of Riccardo Orsolini, Andrea Poli, Angelo Da Costa and Marco Di Vaio, to call some supporters, especially the oldest and the ones that are lonely, to help them pass these difficult days and overcome this crisis, all together.
