MORS TUA, VITA MEA

11 June, 1989, it was played the 32nd championship day and it was  just only two matches to the end and some teams such as the Pisa 21 points, the Como 22 points, the Torino 23 points, the Pescara 25 points, the Bologna-the Lazio and the Cesena 26 points were relegated at the bottom of the table. In this season there were four teams that had been relegated to the “Cadetta” Division.

Two of the teams involved in the safety fight – the host Bologna coached by Gigi Maifredi and the Pescara coached by Galeone – played at the Renato Dall’ Ara Stadium in Bologna.

A SPOT OF PLAY-PLAY

The importance of the stakes put life into a very foul match with few interesting actions.

The Red-blue players prevailed with a less margin thanks to the Alessio’s net happened at 57′ after a kick from the distance of Stringara that the Pescara goalkeeper Gatta didn’t keep possession of the ball. The goalkeeper drove it back in front of him and Angelo Alessio ran the ball like a hawk and scored the net among the rejoicing of the host fans. Yet, after few seconds the fans were, at first, astonished and then anxious following Lorenzo’s sending-off , guilty of having touched by header the defender Marchegiani while he was going to the midfield to play again.

The Red-blue’s coach Maifredi changed immediately the formation of the team and he was able to keep the faint Pescara’s attack attempts back that, just to notice, they didn’t involve the goalkeeper Cusin.

It was a great and very important win for the Bologna! In fact, the Pescara was a direct opponent, so the two gained points were worth really double  and they let the team be in the smooth condition to wait for the last two matches.

At the end of the match, the exultation of the chairman Corioni and the coach Maifredi was really justified. In fact, during the all day match long, they were living on one’s nerves and, above all, in the first championship season phase, they had had a feeling to be freed from the nightmare lived till the whistle of the referee Tullio Lanese from Messina.
