Amarcord: Chievo Verona-Bologna some years ago – 25 ott
The new Chievo subdues the glorious Bologna
In the occasion of the second championship match 2001-2002, which was kicked on 8th November. 2001, the two teams would play for the first time in the top division championship.
Both teams, at the first championship , started to win; the Bologna played at home against the Atalanta, with a final score 1-0, the Chievo played away in Florence with the classical and English score 2-0.
A brief summary of the match
The new Chievo Verona, which made its debut in the top division in front of thousands spectators, also in that occasion, also showed a well organised game against the Bologna by kicking the Red-blue actions by a higher pressing and no offside.
The Chievo started right now to run very fast and the Bologna was in a great difficulty to face it in the pressing and to create some actions. In the 13th minute, the Yellow- blue leaded a penalty from the left by Corini, ex Eriberto( now Luciano) returned the ball to the centre from the right who, kicked the close range, reconignized a right pocket space to defeat the innocent Pagliuca.
After the goal, immediately, it started a bad time for the Bologna. In the 21st minute, it lost Nervo who hurt himself – dubious injury of seminular cartilage of the left knee- then in the 35th minute another injury of Locatelli with a right knee sprain with some dubious about ligament. Despite the lack happened to two of the most important players of Guidolin’s team, the Red-blue seemed to be able to equalize the match. By a score 1-0 for the Chievo, the teams went to the changing room.
In the second time, the Red-Blue managed to equalize the score. A strong-willed Pecchia and an unpliable Signori tried to worry the Yellow-blue defence. Unfortunately, that was the way things stood for the Bologna and the Chievo really hung on the defence and Lupateli wasn’t quite engagé. In the 66th minute Corradi, by a header, hit crossbar of the goal defended by Pagliuca and in the 79th minute the Red-blue Tarantino was sent off the bench
In the 85th minute, thanks to a great and fantastic Federico Cossato’s header who, threw himself after the double score for the Chievo. In the second overtime De Cesare and then Zanchetta hit two goalposts one by one during the last team action.
It was a well win for the Chievo which leaded at the first place.
