Amarcord: ROMA-BOLOGNA many years ago – 04 nov
Bologna used a transistor
March 22, 1964 in the occasion of the twenty-sixth championship match, the Bologna played at the Olimpico Stade during its turbulent and stormy seventh champioship.
The only three privileged teams were the Bologna, the Internazionale and the Milan which were fighting to win the championship. The Bologna was also even grappled with a serious “ Doping case “ which burst violently on 4th March , and reached the strong peak the day before the match with the ground band for eighteenth months of the coach Fulvio Bernardini. Moreover, the Football Club had been banned with 1 point beyond revising its win against the Torino 4-1 into losing by adjudication 0-2.
At the Olimpico Stade, the vice- coach Cesarino Cervellati came on in place “Fuffo” – nickname of Fulvio Benardini – relegated to the bench.
After 88′ of match, the Roma made a noise about the Bernardini’s attitude.
Here is a bit explanation about what happened.
Till that moment Francescon made the good and bad times and the Roma made a mess more than the referee and, just a bit effort, the Bologna was able to win. It was really difficult to guess right now what the Yellow-red secretary Valentini , rushing to the pitch , ordered to the Knight Biancone and Pietro Chiappini, Moreover , we didn’t undertand the reason why Biancone at first tried to speak to the linesman and then the referee instead of its own captain who was and he is the only authorized from the sport code to stand on the Yellow-red ‘s rigths.
Anyway, the Rome even rejected the last match minutes because the field , with Biancone pushed the linesman and Chiappini called Losi, became a bailamme and Francescon didn’t press an advantage not to give any additional seconds.
Why all that mess? Indeed, the relegated Red-blue coach broadcast the orders to the vice- coach Cervellati from the first row of the Monte Mario’s box. So the Rome gave a written qualification letter to the referee
A brief summary of the match.
A strong attack by Perani-Haller and a strong kick by Haller at 9′: a great and fantastic save in corner by Cudicini. A long day among De Sisti-Sormani-Fontana-Angelillo at 12′ and Negri forsaw Leonardi who received a great through-ball by Angelillo. First penalty foul by Leonardi on Capra at 13′. Francescon didn’t whistle. A great and fantastic passage Haller-Bulgarelli-Haller and Cudicini wonderful saved at 16′. At 17′ Carpanesi knocked down Bulgarelli and Francescon had no doubts, so penalty and Haller scored with a great level shot.
At 19′ a great opportunity for the Rome characterised by Orlando’s cross, Leonardi’s dive header in front of Negro, just a bit. Anyway, the play was really balanced. At 30′ Leonardi was stopped irregularly in the box but even in that occasion Francescon didn’t whistle anymore despite the strong and violent protests of the Yellow-red players. Haller’s launch and Bulgarelli’s dummy that in the full box was blocked by a bad foul at 33′ and the referee didn’t also whistle.
At 36′ De Sisti passed the ball to Sormani and Negri foresaw the great through-ball. Perani’s foul to De Sisti and penalty by Sormani, Angelillo’ s shot saved twice by Negro with difficulty at 38′.
Second time
At 53′ a strong kick by Angelillo deflected it into a corner by Negri. At 55′ a sensational save of the Red-blue goalkeeper on Leonardi ‘s feet . At 75′, Nielsen, after receiving the ball from Haller, kicked dangerously and passed in front of the goal Cudicini saved very well the Nielsen’s shot which ended in the bottom. Great save of Cudicini to Haller at 76′. The Roma played very strong and determined but without any expectaction. Negri saved a goal occasion by Orlando at 79’. Pavinato kicked out in the box on Orlando under Francescon’s eyes but he didn’t whistle. A fantastic and extraordinary action of Haller, Bulgarelli’s header who grazed the goalpoast at 85′
