THE GLAUCO VANZ ‘S UNBROKEN RECORD RISES TO 540 MINUTES

On 27th October,1946, the Bologna played at the Luigi Ferraris stadium in Genoa with the Sampdoria, the team was  just created some months before. In fact, on 12th August 1946,  the Sampierdarenese ,with repeated financial problems, was incorporated  with another Genua society, the Società Ginnastica Andrea Doria with the same problems. As result of this merger, the Unione Calcio Sampdoria was created. The first official chairman was Piero Sanguinetti while the first coach was Giuseppe Galluzzi.

The Bologna played in the Marassi’s district and it was the first of the table with nine points in the gamebag thanks to 4 wins and one tie, boasting a point more than the trio – Juventus, Modena, Roma –  of the second place.

Just noticed that the Bologna  had the best defence of the championship with no goals and its goalkeeper Glauco Vanz was unbroken much more than 450 minutes.

The match was played in front of 25,000 fans and the day was characterized by a freezing and chilly  north wind from the mountains behind the stadium that it would have imparted a match with two different play features.

A SPOT OF PLAY-BY-PLAY

At the first half time, the Sampdoria with the back wind, widely commanded the play and kicked without break to the  box defending with a great ability by Vanz, who was able, with fantastic saves, to stagger the host. In addition to  the favourable moment of its own goalkeeper, also in this match, the Bologna could rely on an invicible midfield and defensive line.

At the second time, the weather conditions changed and the Bologna could benefit. In fact, the play was more balanced and this time the Sampdoria goalkeeper Lusetti liked being protagonist. He faced very well to the several Cappello’s, Valcareggi’s and Sipos’ kicks. Yet, the last minute, he was obliged to throw in the sponge in the last Red-blue attack. Sipos ran very fast in the wing and passed a delicious ball to Arcari IV who kicked it straightaway and Sipos kicked it cross pass: Lusetti saved it by diving, but he missed the ball by hand unfortunately and Valcareggi, well lurked, got it back and scored in the net undisturbed.

The Bonivento whisted treble the end of the match and this still made the Bologna  in the top of the table with just one-point lead, following by Juventus and Modena.

However, Glaudo Vanz reached the unbroken record of 540 minutes thanks to it.
