Italiano: «We’re going to need a great performance against Monaco»
The words of Vincenzo Italiano, head coach of Bologna Football Club, about tomorrow’s match against Monaco.
The day before Bologna’s fourth Champions League game, the rossoblu’s Head Coach Vincenzo Italiano shared his thoughts on what’s at stake as he prepare to host Monaco.
Italiano’s pre-game against Monaco
«We need to try something different if we want to boost our place in the standings. The performance has to lead us to results, and that should be our added push. So far, we’ve played well but missed the goal. We need to change that, especially with the support of our rossoblu fans here at Dall’Ara Stadium. We’ll need everyone, and our fans will be incredible as always».
Regarding Monaco’s recent matches, Italiano remarked: «Monaco has seven points. They are at the second place in Ligue 1, and plays with confidence, even though they’re coming off two league losses. We’re going to need a great performance. Having back-to-back wins before this game makes a big difference. Improving in the standings and finding our scoring rhythm has been vital, but we know it’s going to be a real battle».
As for lineup considerations, Italiano hinted at a few potential adjustments: «Monaco plays a high, attacking style with their fullbacks pushing forward. We might switch things up a bit to try and challenge them, but we also need to be realistic about our own condition. Some players aren’t at peak form. I’m still deciding between Dallinga and Castro».
Italiano’s words about the players and the Champions League standings
On players Ferguson and Odgaard: «I saw Lewis (Ferguson) on Saturday, and he looked ready to make an impact, even getting involved in our goal. We’ll gradually work him back in. As for Jens (Odgaard), he’s in great form and just needs to keep up his momentum».
About Lykogiannis’s availability: «He trained for the first time today, but he hasn’t lost fitness. Miranda will start again tomorrow, and I want to see the same drive he showed in the second half against Lecce. He’s making great strides».
Defensively, Italiano emphasized the need for improvement: «Our defense is working hard, and we’re seeing it pay off. The team’s attention to detail against Lecce was impressive».
Looking at the Champions League standings: «We’re aiming for the playoffs, but it’s not something we’re obsessed with. The quality of competition is extremely high in terms of skill, pace, and physicality. Our goal is to rank in the top 24, and if we achieve that, it’ll be a major accomplishment. We’re focused on developing our game and performing at our best».
